Identifying an Emerged Technology Smart Board Technology Smart boards or interactive whiteboards have gained in popularity in the field of education. These devices use SMART technology as a visual tool to engage students, exhibit multifaceted information, assess learning, and prepare students for global and digital society. Overall, smart boards combine digital technology with traditional whiteboards, which enable learners to use and learn with technology. Smart Board Challenges Writing quality on a smart board can be quite challenging and even at times a bit messy. In all, it is hard to write neatly and small. This technology tool can also be expensive to purchase, install, and to maintain. Societal Needs and Benefits Smart Boards are a common tool for creating and displaying presentations in the classroom. It is also great for engaging and exposing students with technology which aids learning by doing. Smart Board Pitfalls and Advantages The first pitfall to smart boards is the lack of equity and availability. Many schools, including my own, only have a few allocated for certain subject areas. I believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to be trained on or provide access to this type of technology. A second pitfall of this technology is the cost. These devices range from $1000 to $3000. Other pitfalls include technical issues arising during activities, presentations, or lessons. If it breaks down, valuable instructional time can be lost. Ultimately, it is important to be knowledgeable, prepared and flexible when using this technology. If educators are better prepared, then smart board usage will become much easier to teach with and engage students with. http://education.smarttech.com/en http://www.brighthubeducation.com/teaching-methods-tips/29535-the-smart-board-for-teachers-teaching-tips-and-lesson-ideas/ |
